In Hoodoo, hair isn’t just strands, it’s spiritual DNA or even our antennas! It’s seen as a powerful personal link that can be used for magic (good or bad), manifestation, protection, love, or even domination. Your hair is your crown and must be protected. That’s why many of us are careful with how we treat and dispose of our hair.

Ways to Dispose of Hair
Hair holds energy and Hoodoo teaches to be intentional with everything you do. In this spiritual practice, it is believed that careless hair disposal can leave one vulnerable to be worked on. These disposal methods are great for manifesting, cleansing, reciting bible verses and others. No need to deliberately cut your hair if you don't want to. You can use the hair that sheds.
Bury the hair: Bury the hair as plant protection in your garden, potted plants, your yard, under your favorite tree or near your door.
Flush it: Flushing the hair is a method that symbolizes the spiritual residue being carried away. (Least recommend, due to the cause of plumbing issues)
Burn it: Burn in a fire-safe container and allow the ashes to fall. Either flush or bury the ashes. (Most recommended)
Throw it in the trash: While others believe it is not a good idea to throw it in the trash, the other half believes it's quite alright. It's all based on SELF.

Spiritual Protection for your Crown (Hair)
Cover your crown: Wear something over your hair. (Hat, Hood, Scarf, Bonnet, Durag, etc) You can also choose the color based on your intention. (Ex. Red for strength, Yellow for open opportunities)
Use blessed water and oils: Use oils made with intent and spray your hair with moon water or rainwater.
Avoid allowing just anybody to touch your hair: Your hair should be careful with who you allow to style your hair, whether it be a hairdresser/barber, braider or simply anyone outside of yourself. You want the person who is doing your hair to also have good intentions and good energy. The transfer of energy from a hairstylist, whether they in a good mood or a mood, can influence your mood by the end of the day.
Speak over your hair: Every time you wash, detangle, or style your hair, speak with intentions.
When your hair is styled, say "More hair!" That is speaking with intention.
Reversals or uncrossing: Rinse the shedding of your hair in hyssop for purification, and/or add a splash of lemon, salt, or vinegar.
Bonus Tip
Want to empower a mojo bag or spell jar? Add a few strands of your own hair. It links the spell directly to you. Just be sure your intent is clean and covered spiritually.
