Infused herbal oils are a great way to capture the healing, aromatic, and nourishing properties of herbs. You can use them for massages, hair growth blends, skincare serums, bath oils, or even as the base for salves and butters. Infused herbal oils are also edible, unlike essential oils. They are gentle, nourishing and safe to consume when prepared properly.
Topical Herbal Oil Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup dried herbs of your choice (examples: calendula for skin healing, rosemary for hair growth, lavender for calming, chamomile for soothing)
1½ cups carrier oil (olive, jojoba, sweet almond, grapeseed, or coconut oil)
A clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid
Cheesecloth or fine strainer
Solar (Slow) Infusion Method
Fill your clean jar about 1/4-1/2 way with dried herbs.
Pour your carrier oil over the herbs until they’re completely submerged, leaving at least an inch of space at the top.
Stir gently to release air bubbles and top the jar with parchment paper.
Seal the jar and place it direct sunlight or sunny window for 2–4 weeks.
Shake the jar every few days.
After the infusion period, strain the oil through cheesecloth into a clean, dry jar or bottle.
Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6–12 months.

Quick Infusion Method
Combine herbs and oil in a heat-safe glass jar or bowl.
Place the jar in a double boiler or slow cooker on low heat (about 100–120°F).
Let it warm gently for 2–4 hours, stirring occasionally.
Strain and store as above.
Tips
Only use dried herbs.
Add a few vitamin E oil to extend shelf life
Add essential oils once the infused oil has cooled to create a fragrant aromatic oil.
