Make your own Nutella in under 30 minutes

We all know the popular nutella spread.. and yes it is so good. Yet, if you are looking for a healthier alternative, you've found it here. Check out the recipe below:

Recommended tools

Cookie sheet

Parchment paper (optional)

High speed food processor or blender

Ingredients

2 cups unsalted hazelnuts (whole or chopped). If available at your grocery store, get unsalted, roasted hazelnuts.

¼ cup raw sugar cane

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tablespoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)

A pinch of salt

2 tablespoons coconut oil, or 1/2 cup of almond milk

Directions

  • Set your oven to 400 degrees F.

  • Bake hazelnuts evenly for 7-10 mins and cool.

  • Add the hazelnuts into your food processor and blend until it has a buttery consistency. This may take about 5 mins depending on the device you have.

  • Add sugar and blend.

  • Add the remaining ingredients and blend consistently. (approximately 10-15 mins)

  • Place in a clean mason jar and store in a room temperature, dark, space for 4 weeks. (If you used milk instead of oil, place it in the refrigerator for 4 weeks).

Alternative Ingredients

  • Instead of raw sugar cane, you can use refined sugar or powdered sugar.

  • Instead of cocoa powder, try 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips.

  • Instead of coconut oil, use palm oil.
